It’s part and parcel of owning a puppy right? Well in the word of someone or other ‘Yeah but, no but….’.
Let’s start by talking about what your puppy is and isn’t doing. They’re not being aggressive or nor do they intend to hurt anyone (or anything). They don’t want to cause any hurt to you or anybody else. In the litter, or their new home they will be using their mouths to explore the world.
So now we understand the reasons why it happens what can we do about it? The best approach, at least initially is one of distraction. Get them to chew something they can chew rather than something they shouldn’t. Olive or coffee woods work well as do cow hoofs (assuming that you can stand the smell). Remember this stage won’t last forever.
It’s critical to ensure your pup is getting enough sleep. They need 20 hours sleep a day and if they don’t get it they’ll let you know.
As well ad distracting them then giving them a job to do work wonders. Start their training and building relationships early.
