The Pet Gundog

Many of us have gun dogs as pets, and they make stunning companions. They’re great family dogs and utterly wonderful pets. They are intelligent and they do need stimulation though. With that stimulation they’ll be happy and worn out – thats a win-win however you look at it. Without that you do run the risk of your pet going self-employed. I promise you won’t like it if they do.

If I train my dog, will I need to work them?

No, the vast majority of people I work with will never take their dogs anywhere near a shoot. These breeds of dogs do need mental stimulation which training provides. Without that stimulation many go self-employed and I promise you won’t like it if they do.

What can I expect to see?

Over a little time (nothing is instant) I expect to see your dog’s confidence increase, not just with me, but in their day to day interactions as well. They’ll be well stimulated when they’re out and tired at home. Many of their less desirable habits will stop as a result. They’ll have a better relationship with you as well.

Do I need to carry on training between sessions with you?

Ideally yes. My whole philosophy is equipping you with the tools you need to train your dog. I’m with you for maybe an hour a week. There’s 168 hours in that week. The dogs who do best have those skills developed during the week. Try training for 5 minute periods during a walk. They and you will love the results
