How very exciting. What an exciting time. Now to help them get off to the right start. A new puppy will have left everything he or she knows and will be trying to bemake sense of how they fit into a big new world. I know I’d be scared, wouldn’t you be?
Think about it. A puppy’s world has changed overnight. All of their brothers and sisters will have gone to their new homes and their mum has probably stayed with the breeder, everything they’ve ever known has just gone and they have a whole new family to settle into. It’s way too much to expect them to understand it all and get everything right. So lets help instead.
Socialisation
I’m going to write (I’m sure one day I’ll get time) a whole page on this, so I’ll keep this relatively short but
Socialisation is the single most important thing you can do for your puppy.
And you haven’t got that long to do it in. By the time they are 16 weeks or so old then that ship has sailed. Throughout that period expose then to as many different stimulus as possible. I don’t just mean puppy parties (although they are important) but everything practical for you to manage. Teach them the guy in a cap is nothing to be scared of. Get it right and they’ll be set up for life.
Puppy Training
All of my puppy training is aimed to build to real things in the relationship between you and them. Everything will be about building trust and confidence between you two. Additionally puppy lessons are always fun. We’ll only ever work for two 15 minute sessions with at least a coffee between.
I promise they’ll be tired and happy when we’ve finished
