Bitches in Season

Uncategorized

Recently, I’ve noticed more and more that people don’t really understand what having a bitch in season means and the effects that can have both on your bitch and other dogs as well. The effects on other dogs can be surprising and often catches owners out..

Other Bitches.

Other bitches, particularly those that are entire themselves, can be aggressive toward an in season bitch. As your bitch will be looking to you to look after her its best not to put her in that situation.

Other Dogs

Walking an in season bitch will have a variety of effects on other dogs. Sooner or later you’ll meet s dog who won’t take no for an answer. You’ll also spoil any other dogs walk -they’ll be looking for the source of that smell, if they find it, or follow ir you may get a dog following you everywhere.

Your Bitch

Your bitch will be looking to you to look after her. To keep her safe. Probably she won’t enjoy the interest she’s arousing and I’m pretty sure you won’t enjoy a litter of pup’s. Especially an unplanned one.Look after your bitch by taking he out somewhere she won’t be particularly bothered by male attention.

At some point she’ll start to go looking for males. Her recall will go completely out the window at this point, and she’ll reappear after she’s found what she’s looking for. Another sign to look out when your bitch is very receptive is she’ll start to flag – move her tail to allow her suitor easy access.

You do run the risk of having a litter of puppies. If you’re not prepared for this then it won’t be fun and potentially very expensive. Lots of male dogs will be following you around.

To keep her safe.

Walk her on lead, on the street at times when there are relatively few dogs around. It may be boring but the alternative is far worse.
